banks lake campgroundNo trip to Grand Coulee would be complete without a stop at the Grand Coulee Dam. One of the summer highlights is the evening laser light show at Dam that is projected onto the dam’s wall.

The area around the dam has an abundance of camping options, including cabins, villas, resorts and setting up your own tent. Banks Lake campgrounds located around Banks Lake also offer many recreational options such as boating, fishing, kayaking as well..

sunbanks-campingIf you live in the Washington area and are looking for a way to spend a sunny afternoon, there is a huge array of hikes at your disposal. In fact, if you’re an avid outdoorsmen, Washington is a great place to live. To that end, one of the most beautiful places to take a day hike is Rachel Lake. An alpine lake starting at Box Creek, the trail is four miles in and four miles out. It offers many gorgeous views, some waterfalls, and several river crossings.

The highlight of the hike is the lake itself, which is a completely clear and stunning blue. It does require a rather steep and difficult ascent to get to that view, however. This can either be a full day’s hike, or a short hike followed by an overnight camp. Rachel Lake, however, is just one opportunity for Washington camping. The state is filled with amazing, challenging, and pristine campgrounds.

While Washington is known as the Evergreen State, in truth, Eastern Washington is much different than the ‘evergreen’ Western Washington.  Eastern Washington beyond the Cascade Mountain Range is more like scrubland or desert than a temperate forest.  However, the areas in Eastern Washington near lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water are some of the most beautiful in the world.  Near the lakes in Eastern Washington, like Banks Lake, there is a plethora of unique flora and fauna that surrounds the clear and cool water of the lake.  Eastern Washington is renowned for its unique geological formations including Steamboat Rock and the famous Dry Falls, which would be the largest waterfall in the world were it not dried up.  Banks Lake hiking is quite an enjoyable activity with several scenic locations and some breathtaking view of the lake and the land below.

Banks Lake is also a great place to hike and vacation because there are dozens of different campsites and resorts located along the lake.  The weather is always great in Eastern Washington with more than enough sunshine to last the whole summer (unlike its Western Washington counterpart where it rains for half the season!).

The feature location for several bass tournaments, Banks Lake is one of the best places for bass fishing in the Northwest.  Located in Eastern Washington, Banks Lake is the preferred fishing hole of many an Old Salt.  While renowned for bass fishing, Banks Lake fishing is not limited to just bass, but is also a great fishing spot for Perch, Sunfish, and even Trout.  Banks Lake has clear water, and it is sometimes possible to see the bottom of the lake even from a boat fifty feet above the surface.  This also makes Banks Lake a good location for trolling, however some submerged rocks and outcrops can cause fishing lines to snag.  But whether fishing from a boat or from the shore, Banks Lake is an ideal fishing destination for professional and amateur fishermen.

There are numerous places to camp or lodge along Banks Lake, and in addition to fishing, it’s an ideal vacation destination with its clear water, scenic beauty, and a wealth of recreation.  Rent a boat, take a swim, or just soak in the sun at Banks Lake!
