I enjoy camping. I am not a fan of sleeping outside in a tent, but I do enjoy the outdoors. My husband is aware of this fact, so few years ago he bought an RV. That was one of the smartest things that he has done in our marriage history.
Camping in Washington has, by far, the most beautiful scenery around. Washington RV camping is a great experience for anyone to have. It gives the freedom just to pick up and go. All your supplies are already packed in your RV. You can just get up and go.
When we are blessed with the sun in the summer, Washingtonians love to go out in the water. Our main festival that we look forward to every year is Seafair. It’s the Northwest’s largest festival in Washington.
Washington watersports is a big pastime, especially when we get to actually see summer. The most popular sport that takes place at Seafair is the hydroplane races on Lake Washington. There are different events that you can take part in as well. Events are as follows, The Milk Carton Derby, the Seafair Triathlon, Fleet Week, and the Torchlight Parade. All of the events are fantastic.
Blues festivals have been around for many years. Debuting in 1973, the San Francisco Blues Festival is the longest running, blues festival in the United States. Blues festivals were created to educate the public about the history and music of blues.
Here in Washington, we try to educate as well as entertain in the same way. The Sunbanks blues festival, is one of the most amazing festivals that you will attend. There are so many different types of bands that perform. The atmosphere is truly astonishing. It’s low key but still has just the amount of energy. The scenery is amazing. I highly recommend anyone to take part in this amazing event.
On my first trip to the Pacific Northwest years ago, my visit was contained to mostly the shoreline. The family and I spent the majority of time taking in the Seattle area before venturing to Port Townsend. We took a few stops along the way to photograph the scenery; it’s much greener in the Northwest than the part of the East coast where we lived.
This past summer, the family once again decided to take a trip to Washington. This time, we decided to rent a couple of cabins in central Washington. While there, we visited the Grand Coulee Dam, Steamboat Rock State Park, and a variety of other natural wonders. If you’re looking for an outdoor family getaway without having to schlep tents, I highly recommended booking central Washington cabins.
Niagara Falls has nothing on Dry Falls. The three and a half mile long precipice known as Dry Falls is ten times the size of Niagara. In fact, Dry Falls is thought to be the greatest waterfall that has ever existed. At the end of the last ice age, flooding on a tremendous scale rushed water at 65 miles per hour through the Upper Grand Coulee and over the 400-fot Dry Falls.
The flood covered parts of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho in hundreds of feet of water in a matter of days. Eventually, the ice sheets that blocked the Columbia River, creating the flood, melted and the river returned to its normal size and course. The Grand Coulee and Dry Falls have been left as geological evidence of the tremendous flood. Visitors to Eastern Washington resort areas often make the trip to witness fantastic views of the Dry Falls at Sun Lakes State Park. Admission is free.
While on vacation in Eastern Washington, I took my family to see the laser light show at the Grand Coulee Dam. From Memorial Day through the end of September, the 36 minute show runs nightly. A fireworks show is added for special occasions, like July 4th.
The show depicts the history of the Columbia Basin Project, the construction of the dam, and the Native Americans who lived along Grand Coulee’s banks. My kids were fascinated by the laser lights and probably absorbed much more of the history of the region than they did at the visitor center. When we got back to the Grand Coulee villas where we were staying the kids couldn’t stop chattering about the show. It was one of many highlights of our family vacation.
If you’re looking for a scenic kayaking trip that’s not too difficult to navigate, then you’ll want to check out the Old Devils Lake Trip on Banks Lake. I found the route in the book Adventure Kayaking: Inland Waters of the Western United States. The trip is six miles long and can be completed in three hours.
During this Eastern Washington kayaking adventure you’ll witness all the beauty of a high-desert lake. You’ll want to paddle near Steamboat Rock, a peninsula that juts out into the lake. The basaltic cliffs are gorgeous to behold. When the journey is complete, be sure to check out the visitor center at Dry Falls or Lenore Caves.
